Michelle R.M. Cochran, MD DFAPA - Medical Director

Dr Cochran currently works as the medical director of the Nashville Center for Hope & Healing and the NeuroScience and TMS treatment centers; in addition she maintains a role as a private practice psychiatrist. The clinics have grown to two sites with two physicians, multiple nurse practitioners, therapists, and many support staff and technicians. Dr Cochran has experience treating a variety of psychiatric conditions, using a comprehensive approach with therapy, counseling, pharmacogenomic testing, medication, and neuromodulation. She received her undergraduate degree at Centre College, her medical training at University of Louisville School of Medicine, and she completed her postgraduate medical education at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. During her psychiatry residency she was Chief Resident.  Additionally, she completed the Management Program for Physicians and Senior Healthcare Administrators at Vanderbilt University, Owen School of Management.  A current diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (with active maintenance of certification), Dr. Cochran is a member of the Tennessee Psychiatric Association, Tennessee Medical Association, Nashville Academy of Medicine, Tennessee Women in Medicine, and Southern Psychiatric Association. Since her residency years, she has also been a member, Fellow (2011), and now Distinguished Fellow (2018) of the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. Cochran has been on the Clinical Faculty in the Department of Psychiatry at Vanderbilt University Medical Center since 1996 and has lectured to undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students as well as private practitioners.  For over 15 years, she has been active on numerous advisory boards professionally and personally.  Before retiring from inpatient psychiatric care and establishing her outpatient private practice, she was the medical director for many psychiatric units and programs in the Middle Tennessee area. Since 2011, Dr. Cochran has offered repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation to her patients as an option for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder.  Dr. Cochran and her staff have trained extensively in the use of repetitive transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) including training at Berenson Allen’s Non-Invasive Brain Institute, Duke University and other specific advanced device trainings.  She has been active in the Clinical TMS Society (CTMSS) on many levels including serving on the executive committee as the VP-Elect (2016-2017), President (2017-2018), and with the Education and Annual meeting committees.  Most recently she has been helping advance the PULSES introductory course with other active CTMSS board members.

Mary Phillips, PMHNP-BC

Mary, a PMHNP- BC, is ANCC Board Certified as an Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive privileges. She originally graduated from the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill with a BSN, and worked for more than 20 years as a registered nurse in general medicine, surgery, hospice care and psychiatry before returning to graduate school at Vanderbilt in 2006 to obtain a master’s degree in psychiatric nursing. She has since been working in varied roles including community mental health, several years in a long term residential substance use treatment center for women and their children, and six years in college mental health at Vanderbilt University. She has most recently worked at Vanderbilt Medical Center doing inpatient addiction psychiatry consults, and with medically complex patients going through the process of organ transplant. She has been able to train psychiatric nurse practitioner students as a clinical preceptor through VUSN. She has a special interest in working with individuals struggling with substance use disorders, co-occurring disorders, and trauma, and also loves working with individuals who have family or other loved ones struggling with substance use issues. She is a member of the nursing honor society, Sigma Theta Tau, Iota chapter.

Mary is a native Nashvillian. She enjoys spending her time hiking with her rescue dogs, reading, and trail riding or wagon riding with her mules. She is passionate about the therapeutic value of animals, especially equines, and enjoys helping people optimize their mental health by incorporating healthy lifestyle practices into their life.

Susan Swanson-Moore, PMHNP-BC

Susan Swanson-Moore, MSN, APRN-BC has been a Psychiatric nurse practitioner for 25 years. She treats children, adolescence, and adults having specialized in child and adolescent nursing.  She grew up in Nashville and received her Masters Degree from Vanderbilt University and her ANCC certification in adult Psychiatric nursing enabling her to treat all age ranges. Lauren Valencia - LCSW Therapist & TMS Coordinator

Lauren Valencia, LCSW has been with NCHH and the Neuroscience and TMS Treamtent Center since 2013 as a Therapist and TMS Coordinator. She has presented and spoken at the Clinical TMS Society Annual Meetings in 2016, 2017, and 2018. In therapy and during TMS sessions Lauren utilizes aspects of CBT, DBT, and Motivational Interviewing to work with patients strengths and develop treatment goals relevant to living a fulfilling life.

Lauren graduated with her Masters of Science in Social Work from the University of Tennessee College Of Social Work in 2013. Prior to becoming an LMSW Lauren received her B.S. in Psychology and Criminology from Florida State University. Lauren's previous experiences include working with patients in the TVHS VA System, Alive Hospice, and Children's Home Society of Florida.

Emelyn Meador, Billing/Clinic Manager

Emelyn is a Nashville native, born and raised. She excelled at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where she majored in Spanish and World Business. While involved in numerous activities, she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa honor society and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences. Em began in this office as the TMS Coordinator and was promoted to Clinical Practice Manager in 2013.

Ashley Williams, Practice Manager - Brentwood

Ashley is a Nashville Native, born and raised in East Nashville. Ashley has worked in the healthcare field for over 10 years. 4 years as an office manager, 6 years in front and back office coordinating. Working in primary care, cardiology, and psychiatry. Ashley is also medical assistant and CPR certified. She is currently working to get her masters at the University of Pheonix for business

Chuck Cochran, MBA, Administrator

Chuck is our back office Administrator.  An MBA from Vanderbilt University and a University of Tennessee Alum, you might get a glimpse of him in the office. He is usually tucked away in the back working on accounting, insurance and operations. He is always available to help on any non-clinical issue when the front office staff is busy or unavailable.
